Shake Off The Negatives Of Natural Wood Roofing
Gerard stone coated metal Canyon Shake roofing not only looks great, it is far superior to natural wood shake and provides the durability you'd expect from a metal roof. Canyon Shake comes with all the quality ratings and features offered in a premium roofing product, such as a Class A Fire Rating, 120mph wind coverage, lifetime warranty, and a class 4 Hail rating with a 2 1/2" Hail stone coverage.
These Canyon Shake features also offer the added benefit of virtually eliminating maintenance costs. In most areas, all Gerard stone-coated metal roofing systems qualify for money-saving insurance discounts, largely because metal will not burn, and for this reason, Gerard's Canyon Shake roofing has become a preferred alternative in areas prohibiting natural shake roofs.
Superior Strength And Better Looking Than Wood Or Concrete Shake Roofing
Newly installed natural wood shake may look nice, but few owners want to be exposed to the chemical upkeep and serious fire hazard of a natural wood shake roof. Pressure and fire retardant treated wood shakes are an alternative, but they pose another set of problems. They are prone to excessive warping, buckling, discoloration and chemical runnoff. Lightweight painted aluminum shake roofing is an option, but the roofing is usually associated with unsightly denting and fading — a serious drawback.
Gerard stone coated metal shake roofing is designed and manufactured to withstand Mother Nature's harshest elements for a minimum of 50 years — guaranteed! Canyon Shake metal roofing is not affected by temperature fluctuations, does not absorb moisture like most conventional wood shake roofing, concrete shakes, and asphalt shingles that results in unsightly algae and mold, and accelerates their decay. For maximum beauty and durability, Canyon Shake metal roofing is coated under a fountain of high quality acrylic resins, poured-on natural chipped stone, and baked on clear UV acrylic coatings to create the most durable, practical and attractive shake-style roofing.
And with its unique design elements, such as additional dimension and accenting created using darker and lighter colored stone chips to mimic realistic dimensional weathered wood shake, your Canyon Shake roof displays more dimension and color than traditional shake, and will continue to look beautiful over time, while requiring little or no maintenance and upkeep.
Canyon Shake Installation
Canyon Shake can be installed directly to the roof deck with screws or nails, or onto pre-fastened wooden battens. While the direct-to-deck installation method is the fastest, batten and counter-batten methods offer more flexibility, energy savings, and the ability to roof over existing wooden shake, asphalt shingles, standing seam, and more, on all 3:12 grade or greater roof slopes. All installation methods exceed the industry's highest wind load uplift requirements.

The Best Protection Against Snow and Ice
If you live in an area that is prone to snow and ice, there is no better roof than a Gerard stone coated Canyon Shake metal roof. Each year, homeowners across America spend millions of dollars repairing damage caused by ‘Ice Damming’. With a Gerard Canyon Shake metal roof, ice damming is virtually eliminated because of the air layer between the metal roof panels and the roof deck. This highly insulating characteristic not only saves energy, but also causes the snow on your roof to melt much faster than on conventional roofs, greatly reducing the possibility of water freezing at the edges of your roof.
